Corey Flowers
Corey Flowers is a classical guitarist currently based in Athens, Georgia where he completed a DMA in Guitar Performance with a minor in composition. Corey studied under John Sutherland and Phil Snyder while at UGA and maintains a particular interest in 20th century and contemporary repertoire.
As a composer, he is interested in writing solo and chamber works for the guitar that reflect the past while searching for their own voice. A CD of original compositions including solo and ensemble pieces is currently in the works.
The album, Altered States of Performance: Scordatura in the Classical Guitar repertoire, was completed in 2015 to accompany his doctoral dissertation (of the same name). The repertoire was chosen so that each selection features a unique tuning or collection of tunings across movements. The document highlights features of each piece that are idiomatic to the chosen scordatura.
In 2015, he made his international debut in Engelberg, Switzerland, and will be spending parts of 2017/18 in Vienna, Austria while his spouse completes her dissertation.
In addition to classical pursuits, Corey also writes and performs post-rock and progressive metal music featuring a blending of styles, extended range instruments, mixed meters, virtuosic soloing, and intricate rhythms.
